Blue Monday

This past weekend was filled with lots of yard work.  The weather looks like it has finally decide to stay nice and our yard was in need of plenty of TLC.  So, I was thankful for Sunday and a chance to wear something other than yard work clothes.  The dress and shoes are each $25 sale finds.  And as I’m sure I have said plenty of times before, I LOVE a dress with pockets.  This dress has a waist tie.  However, since my waist line still needs just as much, if not more, TLC than what I gave my yard, I decided to tie it behind my waist.  No sense in drawing attention to it, right?  Anyway, this dress is super comfortable and it has tons of potential to dress it up.  Maybe with some jewelry or possibly a scarf.  Who knows, you might just see this one again!

Until Next Time!

Because He Lives

John 11:25 “Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.”

I hope everyone was able to spend time with loved ones on Easter Sunday.  I was able to spend my Easter with some, not all, of my family.  While moving to North Carolina took us away from most of our family, it brought us closer to others.  For that, I am grateful.  The weather was nice and we were able to enjoy dinner on my deck.  Great food, great friends and family.  I truly couldn’t have asked for more.

Until Next Time!

Winner

Well, March Madness is almost over.  I always get a little sad at the thought of the season ending, but thankfully I still have a whole lot of NBA basketball left to watch.  This weekend I attended the NCAA Division 1 Women’s Regional with my aunt and cousin.  Women’s basketball can be hit or miss.  But I have to say we saw some really great basketball this weekend.  The TarHeels lost to South Carolina on Friday night, which was a bummer.  However, we got to see a really good game between South Carolina and Florida State on Sunday.  It came down to the wire, but South Carolina was able to pull it out and will be heading to the Final Four next weekend in Tampa, FL.  I was glad to see Dawn Staley, the coach of South Carolina, make it to a Final Four.

This look was my casual, comfortable and no team affiliation look.   I eyed this GAP tunic a few weeks ago and waited until I got a 40% off coupon to pick it up.  And boy, oh boy, am I glad!  It’s super comfortable, long enough to cover up some lumps and can easily be dressed up or down.  I obviously choose to dress it down with these eye-catching sneakers that I picked up from DSW.  This look was a winner!

Until Next Time!

Kiss, Kiss

Philippians 4: 13 (NLT) “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” My pastor shared this Bible verse in church yesterday and it spoke directly to me and what has occurred in my life over the past week.  I started a new chapter of self growth, sought out new opportunities and celebrated a milestone in my daughter’s life.  I’m not sure how I’m going to juggle it all, from day to day.  But these joggers from Gap have become my favorite item to dress up or dress down for whatever life may send my way.  And these booties from GX Collection are just simply everything!

Until Next Time!

Isn’t She Lovely

It’s almost hard for me to believe, but exactly twenty years ago, on this day, I became a mother for the first and only time.  My daughter came three months early and only weighed 2 lbs. and 2 oz.  I was the scariest and yet the most amazing thing I have ever done. The forever love of my life, Courtney R. Young.

Yesterday, along with some of our family, we took Courtney to her favorite restaurant, Cheesecake Factory, to celebrate her milestone. And of course do a little shopping.

I can’t say I remember the pain from twenty years ago, however, the fear, pride and the love will never subside.  Fear that I’m doing this mother thing all wrong.  Pride in the amazing person that she is becoming and love for her that knows no limits.  She amazes, challenges and teaches me all the time.  I hope she is as proud of me as her mother, as I am of her as my daughter.

Happy Birthday Courtney!  Twenty never looked so good!

Until Next Time!

Basketball Is My Favorite Sport

It’s March which means March Madness!  My favorite sport is front and center and I simply can never get enough of basketball.  This will always and forever be true! I had the pleasure of accompanying my aunt on her annual trip to the Women’s ACC Basketball Tournament.  (sorry Zion) If my math is correct, it’s the eighth year in a row.  Not only is the basketball great, but the atmosphere is fun and family friendly.  And to top things off our Instagram photo made it onto the jumbotron!  Woo Hoo! At heart I’m a Buckeye fan.  However, since moving here, you learn quickly that you have to choose a side.  Duke or Carolina.  So, I roll with the TarHeels.  Beat Duke is what I say!  Sadly, the UNC ladies weren’t able to go all the way.  They were beaten in the quarterfinals by Louisville. But, there is always next year, right?! Until Next Time! P.S. In full disclosure, I didn’t actually wear these shoes to the game.  They were just too cute not to share.

Signed, Sealed, DeliverT

This week’s weather played havoc on my routine.  One day it was warm, the next day it was 7 inches of snow and then freezing rain on Sunday. Welcome to March, I guess.  So, needless to say my wardrobe was all over the place.  I decided to share with you all my favorite tee which  was a Christmas gift from my cousin Morgan.  If you aren’t familiar with the “DeliverT” video, be sure to Google it.  It gave me such a good laugh!

Until Next Time!

Say It Loud!

Ok, another thing you should know about me is I love music.  Almost all kinds, really.  That being said, you can assume that my blog post title is probably a song title.  This being Black History Month, what better song, than James Brown’s Say It Loud, I’m Black and I’m Proud. Right?!

In honor of Black History Month, I decided to take a trip to the International Civil Right Museum which once was the Woolworth’s that four NC A&T State University students staged a sit in.  I also visited the statue in their honor on the North Carolina A&T State University campus.  Both trips were long overdue.  Hopefully, if you are in Greensboro, you will make time to explore the rich history this city has to offer.

Until Next Time!

Bang, Bang!

I hope everyone enjoyed their Valentine’s Day weekend.  I’ve never been big on this “holiday”.  Just seemed like something someone made up to make Hallmark some money.  However, I don’t begrudge anyone that get’s into it.  Hopefully, you don’t need February 14th to tell the people you love how much you love them.

Valentine’s Day seemed as good a day as any to make a trip to the gun range.  It’s something we had talked about doing for some time and just never got around to it.  Apparently, I wasn’t the only person who thought to take their spouse to the gun range.  Caliber’s Indoor Gun Range was standing room only.  Men and women alike, which put me at ease.  I was slightly concerned that I might be the only clueless woman there.  That was certainly not the case.  Although, I must admit it appeared that most of the other women there, had been there before. After watching a brief video we were ready to rock and roll.

I wish I could tell you that I rocked, but that would be a huge untruth.  I wasn’t bad, all things considered, however, my aim left plenty to be desired.  The kickback from the gun was shocking at first, but I think I got the hand of it.  I will definitely be back and hopefully I can take a class or two.

My look was pretty casual.  I finally got the Michael Kors booties that I had been crushing on since what seems like the beginning of time.  Gotta love a good Dillards sale!  The sweater was a Banana Republic want that I waited for a 50% coupon to scoop up.  I love a good deal!

P.S. I felt a little weird whipping out my camera in the gun range so all photos were taking with our phones.

Until next time!

One thing you will find to be true about me is that I have a serious weakness for shoes.  Specifically high heels.  That doesn’t mean I don’t have my fair share of footwear that is not a high heels, however, there is just something about the way I feel when rockin’ a sexy pair of heels.

If you follow along with me on Instagram (@bighairtricia), you will find that I am a regular participant in #shoesdaytuesday.  Recently, after posting my first pair of GX Collections heels, I was challenged by them to provide my #OOTD while rocking’ these super hot heels.

So, here is my #OOTD.  I love a good pair of boyfriend jeans and GAP has my favorite pair.  I think I have them in every color!  I’m not a big lipstick wearer, however, you can’t rock a pair of GX Collection by Gwen Stefani and not pay homage to her with a classic red lip!

Until Next Time!
